The Field

Who created the cell phone, mp3 player, microprocessor, digital camera and satellite? Electrical engineers!

Electrical engineering (EE) is one of the broadest of the engineering disciplines. Electrical engineers work with very small things like integrated circuits, which control virtually every electronic item in the home and industry, all the way up to large things like the electric power grid that stretches across the nation. Electrical engineers also use and interact with the computer, mostly on the hardware side.

The Program
With our active, hands-on approach, you'll be creating the future and impacting people's lives.

You will learn about general topics such as digital and analog circuits, programming, microcontrollers, wireless communications and motors as well as special topics such as fuzzy logic, robotics and optical communications.

Design and laboratory projects grow in complexity throughout the four-year program. Sophomores might be asked to design the logic circuit for a vending machine or an intelligent traffic intersection. Senior students work in teams of three or four on a major project for the entire academic year.

Many of the projects use wireless communication and microprocessors. The projects are usually defined by the students, sometimes with the help of faculty and/or local industry.

The MSOE Advantage
We place a strong emphasis on design, applications and hands-on laboratory experimentation. The laboratory is the place to grasp classroom theory. How can you best learn something? By doing it. You will design, build and debug electronic systems that function just like the specifications.

MSOE also has a strong relationship with local industry. For students, this equates into ideas for design projects and industry internships or summer jobs. We prepare graduates for successful immediate entry into industry, as well as for graduate school.

The Results
100% of MSOE's electrical engineering students last year found employment with an average starting salary of $53,500.
