The MSOE Financial Aid Office has created an email listserv
for private scholarships. This listserv allows our office to send emails out to
all who have subscribed when we are notified of a private scholarship. Anyone
is welcome to subscribe to our listserv to receive the scholarship emails. We
recommend reviewing the following pages as well: MSOE's
Annual and Endowed Scholarships and Private
Scholarship Websites page.
I received an outside scholarship; will this impact my financial aid?
Typically, there is no change to a student's financial aid Award Offer if they are receiving an outside scholarship. However, there are occasions in which an outside scholarship could affect a student's financial aid.
One occasion that could affect financial aid is if a student receives an outside scholarship that makes them exceed the cost of attendance (indirect and direct costs) here at MSOE. Per the Federal Regulations, students are not allowed to receive financial aid above the school's cost of attendance. In this case, MSOE would first reduce the student's Federal Work-study funding, if awarded. If a student is not awarded Federal Work-study, MSOE would reduce the student's alternative loan, Federal Direct PLUS Loan, or Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, respectively.
Another occasion that could affect financial aid is if a student
receives an outside scholarship that makes them exceed their financial need
(MSOE's cost of attendance minus the student's Expected Family Contribution).
Per the Federal Regulations, students are not allowed to receive need-based
financial aid above their financial need.
In this case, MSOE would first reduce the student's Federal Work-study
funding, if awarded. If a student is not awarded Federal Work-study, MSOE would
then reallocate the student's Federal Direct Subsidized Loan into a Federal Direct
Unsubsidized Loan until the need-based financial aid equals the student's
financial need or the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan equals the student's maximum
federal loan amount for their grade level.
Is my MSOE Academic/Transfer Scholarship renewable?
