MSOE's goal is to provide meaningful employment for students
which correlate to their educational goals and connects them to the campus. The following information will provide you
with important details concerning student employment policies and procedures. Please read this carefully and contact the
Human Resources office at (414) 277-7132 if you have any questions.
To qualify
for student employment during the academic year you are required to take at
least six undergraduate credits or three graduate credits during each term of
the academic year. The academic year
employment period begins on Sept. 1 and ends on May 31.
You may work a maximum of 20
hours per week during the academic year, except during break periods in which
you can work a maximum of 40 hours
per week for all jobs held on campus. The
hours requirement applies to all positions held on campus.
You will be paid for hours worked. You will NOT be paid for lunch breaks, sick
days, holidays, or as a result of any emergency or weather related closing.
Students, who have been awarded Federal Work-Study for this
academic year and plan to work through our off-campus Federal Work-Study program,
must have approval through the Financial Aid office.
All student employees must complete the Student
Employment Contract. In addition,
students who have not worked on campus will be required to complete payroll
forms: I-9 (employment eligibility and verification), W4 (federal and state
withholding), and direct deposit form.
All completed forms must be returned to the Human Resources office prior to starting employment with the
university.
Student employees may be working with sensitive and
confidential information. It is
imperative that information learned about university students and university
business remain confidential. The "Student Conduct Code" applies to your conduct at work as well as elsewhere on
campus, and that violations of Article I, Sections 1, 2, 8, 13, 15, 18 are
especially applicable to employment:
Section 1: Falsification of Information
Section 2: Theft of Property
Section 8: Behavioral Misconduct
Section 13: Violation of State, Federal or Municipal Law While on MSOE Property
Section 15: General Behavioral Policies
Section 18: Academic Dishonesty
For a detailed explanation of the Student
Conduct Code, please refer to the Whole Student Life Handbook published by the
Student Life Office.
