Job Description:

Position Title: Undergraduate Research Assistant Electrical/Instrumentation

Position Summary:

The major responsibilities of this position include the setup, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical power, control and instrumentation used in fluid power systems and hydraulic power units. This position requires working with numerous individuals including MSOE faculty, staff and students as well as individuals from industry representing companies that are funding the research projects. Other duties include, but are not limited to: routine laboratory maintenance, development, and cleanup.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 Industry Funded Projects

  Setup and installation of AC and DC low and medium voltage electrical control systems
  Programming and wiring of PLCs for specific test setups and hydraulic power supplies
   Setup, calibrate maintain and troubleshoot measuring instruments
  
 Internal Projects

  Develop, update, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical controls for existing hydraulic power units
  Design, develop, install, and troubleshoot electrical controls for new hydraulic power units 
  Routine laboratory maintenance, cleanup, and house keeping
  Other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements:

Full time MSOE student in engineering or engineering technology, preferably EE, CE, SE,or EET
 Sophomore status preferred; must be in good academic standing
General knowledge of electrical controls, electric motors, PLCs, and instrumentation or a strong desire to learn
 Strong electrical aptitude
 Working knowledge of MSOE supported computer software programs
 Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical circuit schematics

Other Skills and Abilities:
 
 Working knowledge of small hand and power tools
 Highly motivated, self starter, quick learner with strong written and oral communication skills
Able to work 10 to 20 hours per week during the school year, with the potential to work 40 hours in the  summer
 Able to routinely lift a minimum weight of 50 pounds without assistance
 Troubleshooting experience and a solid background in electronics a plus
 Related industrial work experience a plus
