Job Description:
Position Title: Undergraduate Research Assistant; Fluid Analysis Laboratory
Position Description:
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Fluid Power Institute’s research chemist in the fluid analysis laboratory. Typical work assignments include fluid testing, technical report preparation, glassware cleaning, and general laboratory maintenance. This position also supports research projects that are performed in the main Fluid Power laboratory. As a result, the ability to collaborate with MSOE faculty, staff and students, and customers is required.
Specific Duties:
- Participate in safety training
- Follow safety rules
- Learn test methods and conduct routine analytical procedures
- Particle counting
- Ferrography
- Moisture analysis
- Filterability tests
- Gravimetric analysis
- Disassembly and flushing of hydraulic components
- Interpret and report test results
- Check the inventory of laboratory supplies such as bottles, wipes and gloves on a monthly basis
- Clean laboratory glassware, operate dishwasher, put away glassware
- Clean tops and sides of laboratory benches and cabinets
- Perform tests in main Fluid Power laboratory as needed
Requirements:
- Full time MSOE Student in engineering or engineering technology, preferably ME, MET, IE, TC, or BE
- Sophomore status with good academic standing
- Able to work 10 to 12 hours per week during the school year and at least 20 hours per week during the summer.
