Checklist for International students applying as an undergraduate, transfer and graduate student ...
In order to begin processing an application for admission, all of the following materials must be received by the MSOE Enrollment Management Office at least 60 days prior to the beginning of the term you intend to begin your studies at MSOE.
- Fill out the international student application if you are applying for an undergraduate degree or for a graduate degree. Please read all the instructions carefully. (Online applications are free to submit)
- For paper applications, a $25.00 application fee made payable in U.S. funds and drawn on a U.S. Bank is required.
- Sign and mail the Official Signature to the Application form.
- Fill out the International Student Financial Certificate with original signatures and bank seals. A completed Financial Certificate with supporting documentation showing that you have sufficient funds to cover your educational and living expenses must be provided to MSOE.
- Request your official secondary school transcripts to be sent directly from your school to MSOE and if your country has a secondary school exam please send the exam directly from the testing center. If applicable, request any post-secondary school transcripts to be sent from your school directly to MSOE.
- Send all official course descriptions of all post-secondary school courses directly to MSOE. These course descriptions should contain at least a few sentences that describe the course content of each course that you took at the post-secondary school. These course descriptions will then be utilized for the determination of which courses will be accepted for credit at MSOE. Courses will only be evaluated once a prospective student is accepted to MSOE and once all course descriptions are received.
- A minimum English proficiency is required for admission. The proficiency requirement can be satisfied by:
- Submission of an official score report indicating a score of 213 computer based TOEFL (79 Internet based) composite for undergraduate or graduate admission or a composite score of 173 computer based TOEFL score (61 Internet based) for the English as a Second Language undergraduate program.
- Submission of an official IELTS score report indicating a score of 6.5 composite for undergraduate or graduate admission or a composite score of 5.0 - 6.0 for the English as a Second Language undergraduate program. IELTS is jointly managed by: University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. Registration forms for the IELTS can be obtained at www.ielts.org.
- Satisfactory completion of Level 112 of intensive English study at any ELS Language Center in the United States.
- Attending a United States secondary school and taking the regular required English courses school for at least two years.
- If you have attended a post-secondary school at an accredited college or university in the United States for at least 24 credits worth of classes.
- The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) is recommended but not required for international applicants.
- A copy of your current passport.
- International students at MSOE are automatically enrolled in a health insurance plan while attending MSOE. This is to ensure that that they are healthy while they are students, and that the student has adequate health care coverage if they need any medical assistance while in the United States. The cost of this insurance is automatically added to the cost of tuition and fees. International students that have existing health care coverage through a sponsor, or through their own insurance carrier, must provide a letter of health insurance coverage to be exempt from this fee. - To complete the graduate application process, in addition to the forms above, submit the following:
- Your official GRE or GMAT score report. For the M.S. in medical informatics, the MCAT, DAT and LSAT are also accepted.
- Two letters of recommendation. For M.S. in medical informatics, three letters of recommendation are required, one of which must be from your current employer or manager (if employed).
- Provide a one-page essay indicating your professional goals and career plans. E-mail your essay to explore@msoe.edu or mail to the address below.
- Note: All students currently attending a United States academic institution must also submit a Transfer Form for International Students . This form must be completed by the International Student Advisor of the school the student is transferring from with the applicant's authorization to release information requested in the form. Please contact the MSOE Enrollment Management Office at 1-800-332-6763 if you need this form.
- Make copies of all the material for your reference and send all the materials by first class mail to the MSOE Enrollment Management Office.
- If your application is not complete, MSOE will notify you by e-mail or mail what is missing. Make necessary arrangements to send in the missing material to the MSOE Enrollment Management Office.
- Within 30 days from the time your application file is complete, you will be notified of your acceptance / denial of admission to MSOE.
- Accepted students must send in the non-refundable $175 enrollment deposit to the MSOE Enrollment Management Office to hold your place at MSOE. Please make checks payable to the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
- Upon receipt of the tuition deposit, the MSOE Enrollment Management Office will release your Certificate of Eligibility for an F-1 visa, the I-20 form.
- If you plan to stay in the MSOE residence halls, you must reserve a room by filling out the International Student Housing Application and mail it to the Housing Department.
- After you receive your I-20 form and all your supporting documents, apply at the nearest U.S. Consulate or Embassy in your country for an F-1 visa.
- If you are granted a visa to enter the United States and to study at MSOE, make travel arrangements to report at MSOE at least one (1) week before the beginning date of classes.
- If you wish MSOE to make arrangements to meet you at the Milwaukee International Airport, inform the MSOE Enrollment Management Office of your flight details at least two (2) weeks in advance of the date of arrival.
Note: International student application processing may take up to 60 days for completion. Upon completion of the application review, the Director of Admission will notify the applicant of the Admission Committee's decision. The application deadline is two months before the beginning date of the term you plan to attend MSOE. Students can start their program at MSOE at the beginning of any one of the four quarters. However, it is recommended that the students start in the Fall Quarter (September), which marks the official beginning of an academic year. Please refer to the MSOE Calendar to see important dates.
