Wisconsin Counselor and Administrator Conference

Join us for the Spring 2013 Counselor Conference

April 9, 2013
Waukesha, Wis.

If your school has introduced the Project Lead The Way program, school counselors and administrators have a commitment to attend a counselor conference held by PLTW Wisconsin every five years. Join us for a day at Waukesha County Technical College.

At the conference you will receive updates on Project Lead The Way, along with informative details about the core curriculum in both the Engineering and the Biomedical Sciences program. A student panel will discuss their experiences in a PLTW classroom and how it influenced them to pursue a future in engineering. A speaker from the tech college will highlight their programs into STEM careers. You will leave with a better understanding of the PLTW program and take away materials to share with your students and parents.

Top Twelve Reasons To Teach Engineering

Written by Celeste Baine, Engineer, author and founder of Engineering Education Service Center

  1. 48 countries (2.8 billion people) could face fresh water shortages by 2025. Population in developed countries will age and engineers can help develop assistive technologies so aging people can maintain healthy, productive lifestyles.
  2. To enlighten students who don’t know what engineering is about.
  3. To help the energy crisis by finding new ways to produce or store solar, wind, wave, geothermal and other sources of energy.
  4. To help develop new medicines for numerous diseases.
  5. To keep up with the technology needs of society.
  6. To counter the violence of terrorists.
  7. To improve methods of instruction and learning.
  8. To reduce our vulnerability to assaults in cyberspace.
  9. To prevent devastation from hurricanes and other natural disasters.
  10. To improve our connectivity and ability to communicate with family and friends.
  11. To keep us safe at home and in other countries.

With a little creativity, any one of these reasons can become a lesson or discussion about engineering careers and serve as a catapult to further exploration.
