Next Competition: Saturday, January 25, 2014
The Science Bowl is a double elimination tournament-style academic competition that challenges and recognizes a student's knowledge of science and mathematics. MSOE invites your school to participate in this exciting event, sponsored by MSOE and the U.S. Department of Energy.
You and your team go head-to-head against other teams in a fast-paced question and answer format similar to Jeopardy. You will be quizzed on all science disciplines including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics and astronomy, as well as math.
Most questions are so challenging even educated scientists would have trouble finding an answer. Below is a sample question from a previous year's competition:

For a circuit with a current of 3 amperes, operating for 5 minutes, how much charge, in coulombs, has gone by any point in the circuit? ANSWER: 900 C (Solution: DQ = I DT ... Since coulombs is in seconds, convert 5 minutes into 300 seconds and multiply by 3 C/s = 900 C) |
How it works
Regional science bowls are held across the country. The first place team from each regional competition wins an all-expense paid trip to the National Science Bowl finals, held in Washington, D.C. each spring.
Teams must be signed up by a teacher who agrees to be the coach (usually a science or math teacher). Space is limited so get your teacher to sign you up quickly! Please see the teacher/coach page for more information..
