MSOE Summer Programs FAQs

Q: How long has MSOE been running Summer Programs?
A: MSOE has offered summer programs for many years; more than 10 years in the current format.

 

Q: Is there a difference between Discover I and Discover II?
A: No, Discover is just offered two weeks to accommodate more campers.

 

Q: What time is check in and checkout?
A: You should check in between 3-5 p.m. on the Sunday of the program. Special arrangements can be made for late or early check-in if necessary.  Please contact summerprograms@msoe.edu if you need to make any special accommodations.

Each Friday there is an Awards Ceremony that begins at 1 p.m. in the Kern Center. Your parents, family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend the Awards Ceremony. Checkout immediately follows the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony, which will be around 2:30 p.m. Special arrangements can be made for late checkout if necessary.

 

Q: What if I am arriving via air, train or bus?
A: MSOE will provide ground transportation at no extra cost. Also, if you need to arrive a day early and/or stay a day late due to travel arrangements, you may stay in the residence halls an additional day or two at no extra cost. A Travel Form will be provided in the Final Confirmation Packet so we can be made aware of your travel plans. Obtain confirmation of registration prior to making any travel plans.

 

Q: Can I bring a vehicle to campus?
A: Yes, however, the vehicle must remain parked the remainder of the program. Participants are not allowed off campus unless previous arrangements have been made. There is no additional cost for parking

 

Q: Do I have to stay overnight?
A: This is a resident camp and we encourage full participation in the program. Under certain circumstances, exceptions can be made for commuters.

 

Q: Will I have a roommate?
A: Yes, There are 2 campers per room and we can accommodate roommate requests. If there is an uneven number of participants, someone may end up in a single room.

 

Q: Are the residence halls air-conditioned?
A: The common areas of the residence halls are air-conditioned, but the rooms are NOT. It is strongly encouraged that each participant bring a fan.

 

Q: Are the classrooms air-conditioned?
A: Yes.

 

Q: How many participants will there be each week?
A: We will accept a maximum of 96 participants each week of Discover. Each area of Focus has a limit, based on lab accommodations.

 

Q: How do I register and pay?
A: You may register online and make your deposit or full payment online.

 

Q: Is the program fee refundable?
A: The $50 deposit is non-refundable. If the student is unable to attend the camp for any reason, the balance is refundable.
