July 25-30, 2010
We live in a
world of Google, YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, smartphones, iPods, and GPS
devices. Look closer and you'll see that software is the key ingredient in the
exciting process that brings them all to life. Would you like to be a part of
that excitement?
If so, the SE/CS
Focus program is for you. Spend the week as a software engineer, learning and
doing and having fun!
You will learn:
- How software plays an important role in a wide variety of fields.
- Why a special kind of engineer is needed to design and build today's complex software systems.
- That computer programming is a great starting point, but only one of many roles in the rich and varied field of software engineering.
- Why leadership, teamwork, and collaboration must complement technical knowledge and skill.
When asked to
describe the "best thing" about their software engineering experience in the
FOCUS program, some past participants said:
- "Self set pace, not forced by anyone."
- "Hands-on experience."
- "Creating your own movie."
- "Working with computers and creating video games."
- "It gave you a chance to work with a new OO programming language and is something I can explore even more on my own at home."
In the evening, fun
activities are planned such as bowling, picnics and more!
