Why did you choose MSOE?
Because I knew it would challenge me, provide a good education and give me a degree from a university with a great reputation. Other considerations like location, small class size and high placement rate also appealed to me.
What were you involved in at MSOE?
I was a Resident Assistant and I participated in a student rocket competition for two years. I performed an undergraduate research project during the summer of 2008.
What do you feel is the greatest lesson you’ve learned at MSOE?
At a university like MSOE there are tons of chances to gain valuable experiences and skills. I’ve learned that it’s important to take initiative and not let these opportunities pass by.
What have you liked most about your MSOE experience?
I have honestly enjoyed the excellent education more than anything else. The professors are great and help me see the practical application of everything I learn. They make learning fun.
How have the scholarship(s) helped you?
If it were not for the scholarships I would not have been able to come to MSOE. As a high school senior I applied to MSOE but thought I would have to go elsewhere because of the cost. I was happy to find that the scholarships enabled me to attend MSOE after all.
What are your plans now that you're graduated?
This summer I am working at Sandia National Labs in Livermore, Calif. I am an engineering intern working with thermal and fluid sciences in the transportation engineering department.
This fall I will be attending the California Institute of Technology, pursuing a Ph.D. in aeronautics.
What advice do you have for students?
My advice to students would be to actively pursue internships and research opportunities as early in their college careers as possible. Obtaining research or internship experience opens the door to all kinds of great opportunities. However, one must be proactive and persistent to get that first internship position
