Ibrahim Vazirabad

Major: BioMolecular Engineering

Class: 2013

Where are you from?
I hail from Saint Francis, Wis., a suburb six miles south of the city of Milwaukee.

What year will you graduate?
I will graduate in 2013, the year the first MSOE BioE graduates to enter the workforce.

What do you like about the BioE program?
There are two things that I enjoy most about the BioE program. First, the BioE faculty is excellent. They invest a lot of their time working with the students one on one and they are some of the nicest professors I have had at MSOE. Secondly, I am confident that with the forward-focused education I am receiving in the BioE program, I will be very much prepared for any career opportunity that comes my way, be it in industry, research, or simply furthering my education in graduate school.

Why did you choose BioE as your major?
I got very excited about organic chemistry and biochemistry my senior year of high school. I saw that MSOE was offering a new degree in Biomolecular Engineering, so I took the plunge so to speak. I am very happy with my decision to join the BioE major. It really is better than I could have ever imagined when I applied for the program.

Why did you choose MSOE?
Choosing MSOE was not a hard decision for me. I knew I wanted individualized attention from industry-trained professors who really know what they are talking about. MSOE is one of the few colleges in the Midwest which offers this type of opportunity.

What type of advice would you give someone who is considering attending MSOE?
I would simply tell this student to follow their passions. If they really like a certain field in high school and want to apply it in a way that can make people's lives easier, more efficient, etc, then they should seriously consider coming to MSOE.

What do you do in your free time?
I currently volunteer as a Peer Mentor at MSOE, which deals with acclimating freshmen and transfer students to the social atmosphere of MSOE. I also work in the MSOE enrollment office helping Admissions attract prospective students to MSOE.

See what others in this field are saying.
