Major: Software Engineering

Class: 2013

Where are you from?
Bolingbrook, Ill.

What do you like about the SE program?
I like how hands-on the curriculum is. I was never a huge fan of sitting in classes, taking notes, staring at the notes later, and then taking a test on it. In the SE program, every class has several hours of lab where we get to experience the material first hand. The other major thing I like is that all the professors are very easy to talk to and express a desire to help us learn. The whole environment makes the large workload seem not so bad.

Why did you choose SE as your major?
I’ve had an interest in software development since I was in middle school. I would write small mods for some of the games I would play in my free time. That’s how I really got my start in programming. It was only natural that I would go on to make it a career choice.

Why did you choose MSOE?
It was a smaller school with a good reputation. I wanted a good education and minimal lecture hall classes. MSOE fit those criteria the best for me.

What type of advice would you give someone who is considering attending MSOE?
If you prefer small class sizes with a hands-on learning style, then MSOE would be a great school for you. Just be prepared to work hard. There is plenty of time to have fun and enjoy yourself here, but always remember that your grades are important.

What do you do in your free time?
I like to play video games like the rest of the software engineering population here. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually found spending time with my girlfriend. I also enjoy playing my guitar and listening to music whenever I can.
