Major: Industrial Engineering

Class: 2012

Home town: North Prairie, Wis.

Why did you pick MSOE?
In terms of engineering, MSOE is one of the best schools in the nation. MSOE has a reputation around the corporate world as being elite, so a degree from here would go a long way after graduation. Also, I met Dr. Schuppe (head of the Industrial Engineering Department) during an Open House, and his presentation that day helped me decide on pursuing a degree in industrial engineering. Admittedly, I had never heard of this major before his presentation; but I knew that it would be a good fit for me, and I wanted to study here at MSOE to obtain the best education possible for my time and money.

What do you like about MSOE?

Due to the smaller class sizes, many opportunities have been available to me that most likely wouldn’t have come about this early in my college career. The past two summers, I have been working as an engineering intern. This opportunity most likely would not have been available to me so early if I were at any other school. Also, I like the location right in the middle of downtown Milwaukee because it is only a short bus ride from many exciting places in the city.

What would you tell someone who is considering coming to MSOE?
Be prepared to work hard at your education, but if you do put in the effort and have the determination to succeed, then you will be rewarded with the knowledge and experience to become whatever it is you want in your professional life. You will be challenged during your time here at MSOE, but the possibilities are endless with the education and connections that you will gain here.

What do you do in your free time?
I lead a very active lifestyle outside of school. I play nearly every sport, so usually I will get involved in those sorts of activities. In high school I played five sports a year, so that usually keeps me pretty occupied when I’m not doing school-related work.  I also work part-time here at MSOE, which takes up the rest of my free time during the school year.

Any groups or clubs you’re involved in?
During my time here at MSOE, I have been involved in a number of extracurricular activities such as the rowing team, baseball team, IIE, as well as numerous intramural sports. I try to stay busy outside of the classroom to maintain a well-balanced lifestyle. It’s nice to have all these clubs and sports available to us at MSOE so that we have the opportunity to relax and have fun when we are not studying.
