Major: Physics and Chemistry Department
As an associate professor in MSOE's Physics and Chemistry Department, faculty representative for the Athletic Department, wife, and mother of two small boys, Dr. Anne-Marie Nickel has her hands full. We caught up with her to learn more about her life outside of the classroom.
Favorite subject to teach:
Intermolecular forces (chemistry), because intermolecular forces can explain many interesting phenomena, including why geckos can crawl up a wall, how we distill crude oil and how soaps clean.

Any ocean beach, preferably with big waves and warm water, like Hapuna Beach, Hawaii or the outer banks of North Carolina.
Favorite book:
Most recently, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks or The Help.
Favorite thing about MSOE:
The people--students, staff and faculty.
Favorite element in the periodic table:
Nickel, of course!
Best advice:
Make a decision and then make it work.

Milwaukee Sport Club U-7 soccer team, which my son plays on, or the MSOE Raiders.
Best distraction:
Playing board games, reading novels, chatting with friends, watching The Big Bang Theory.
Best place to hang out on campus:
The Kern Center
Favorite musical instrument you never learned how to play:
Acoustic guitar
Better chemist, Marie Curie or Emil Fisher:
