Ashley Dzick

Major: Management Information Systems

Class: 2013

Where are you from?
I’ve lived in several states, including Texas and Louisiana, but I was born in Wisconsin.

What do you like about the MIS program?
There’s a lot of flexibility in what you want to do. I want to focus on application development, but I know many other people who would rather focus on infrastructure. In MIS, you can do either of those things.
The class material is also very relevant to the business environment. At my internship, I’ve been able to incorporate many of the skills I’ve learned at MSOE.

Why did you choose MIS as your major?
I enjoy programming, but I also enjoy learning about business. MIS seemed like the perfect balance of the two.

Why did you choose MSOE?
MSOE is pretty well known for the rigor of their course work, but also for their prestige. I knew MSOE would be a challenge, but would provide a degree that would be meaningful in the business world.

What type of advice would you give someone who is considering attending MSOE?
Take advantage of the free food! (No, seriously.) There are a lot of great activities hosted on campus by Student Life and organizations that offer food. It’s a great way to meet other people at MSOE, and can serve as a much needed distraction from homework.

What do you do in your free time?
I follow politics pretty closely, play the violin, and play video games.

Congratulations to Ashley, whose team recently won first place and $2,000 in MSOE's Business Plan Competition. Her team unveiled a tested concept for a low-cost, Web application featuring portable software code that's designed for local political campaigns.
