Major: Management Information Systems
Class: 2013
Where are you from?
I am from Chilton WI, a small city of about 3,500 people.
What do you like about MIS?
One of the things I like most about the MIS program here at MSOE is that all of my instructors have experience in the fields that they are teaching. My brother is currently attending UW-Menasha and, while his teachers generally know about what they are teaching, some of his teachers don't have real world experience in the field, ie. electrical engineer teaching economics.
Why did you chose MIS?
I chose MIS as my major because I felt that it was a good blend between the business and IT curriculum offered by other schools. I wanted to go into and IT profession, but I also wanted to have the opportunity to work with other people in a business environment. I believe that a MIS degree most closely aligns to those goals.
Why did you chose MSOE?
I chose MSOE for two reasons. The first is because it seemed like one of the more accredited colleges that offered the MIS program. The second reason was because of advice I had received from a number of people while I worked as an intern at Plexus Corp. between my junior and senior years in high school. Several of the people there, including the CEO Dean Foate, had gone to MSOE and seemed to have a rewarding career because of it.
Do you have any advice for someone considering MSOE?
Be prepared to study and not just party all of the time. MSOE is definitely not a party school and work actually gets done here.
What do you do in your free time?
A hobby that is have is aerial robotics. I have been building and flying radio-controlled planes for a few years now and I am in the process of making one into a fully functioning UAV. Right now this project is on hold while I participate in the First Robotics collegiate pilot on the quad-copter team.
