Major: Management Information Systems
Class: 2014
Where are you from?
Cedarburg, Wis.
What do you like about the MIS program?
The MIS program holds aspects that are parallel to my interests and strengths. I really enjoy the combination of technology and business. I have always excelled in social environments and with many aspects of technology; MSOE incorporates all of this into its MIS program. I am taking a variety of classes; I begin my day with a marketing class and end it with a website design class. One thing that I think is really impressive about MSOE’s MIS program is the built in internship program. I am looking forward to this ‘real-life’ experience that is offered to me my junior year.
Why did you choose MIS as your major?
I started as a computer engineering student at MSOE. After questioning my decision to declare this major, I was introduced to the MIS major. Honestly, I didn’t even know MIS existed, or that MOSE offered it, but I quickly realized this path much better fit my interests. MIS incorporates my love for technology and my leadership ability. I never thought I would be pursuing a business major, but it turns out I love the social environment that comes along with the Rader School of Business.
Why did you choose MSOE?
I chose MOSE because of its reputation, location, and size. Many people forget that the business program is a rigorous major offered at MSOE, but employers are aware of our reputation. The business graduates are just as ‘field ready’ as the engineers.
Milwaukee is familiar to me and is close to home and the bus system is easy to use. Small class sizes are very important to me; I find it really difficult to learn in a lecture setting. At MSOE you are not number, your professors know you by name, and truly care about your success.
What type of advice would you give someone who is considering attending MSOE?
If your education is your priority, MSOE is a great place for you. Plan on working hard here, because nothing about MSOE is easy. Doing well isn’t impossible, but it requires a lot of self discipline. Although MSOE may have a reputation of being ‘anti-social,’ getting involved with student life is easy.
What do you do in your free time?
I really enjoy exploring Milwaukee in my free time. Brady Street, the Third Ward and the mall are all within walking distance. When it’s too cold to be outside, I take advantage of the free movies offered by MSOE or hang out with friends in the dorms.
