Nikhil Prasad '10

Major: Electrical Engineering

Class: 2010

Where are you from originally?
I am originally from New Delhi, India.

Why did you choose to study at MSOE?
MSOE’s practical approach towards learning played a major role in my decision. I didn’t want to wait until graduation or senior year to start applying engineering concepts. MSOE provides that opportunity through comprehensive lab experience, class-projects and an intensive senior design project course.

Were you nervous to come here?
Not at all, in fact I was looking forward to coming to Milwaukee. I had read about the place and MSOE so I had some idea as to what to expect. I remember the day I arrived here distinctly. The three people I met on that day were Rachel and Caleb from the Enrollment Office and Dr. Williams from MSOE faculty. Rachel picked me up from the airport and helped me find my accommodation in the Residence Halls. It was nice to meet with Caleb who was my Admission Counselor and with whom I had corresponded from India. Dr. Williams is my Academic Advisor and also Program Director of Electrical Engineering Program who helped me select my courses for the quarter. I really appreciated their helpful and welcoming nature and it was a great initiation to my time here.

Is being in America different than you thought it would be? How so?

I had friends studying in American universities, so I knew about some of the differences in culture and education here. The education system here is very flexible and accommodating to students with different interests. People are generally inquisitive about the cultures in different countries and are keen to learn more about them. This two-way learning experience has been very enriching.

Do you think your experience here helped you to find a job?
Definitely, I think my experience at MSOE was very valuable in getting a job. I have learned a lot here, not just in electrical engineering but also other professional skills of time management, prioritization and teamwork. I look forward to apply these skills and knowledge in a work opportunity.

What did you like about studying here?
I liked the pace of studies. Courses last for eleven weeks and that time goes by really fast. I also liked the fact that we were taught directly from professors, many of whom have valuable industry experiences which they share in their lectures.

Has the experience been worthwhile?
My experience here was truly rewarding. I have enjoyed interacting with my professors, participating in campus organizations such as Student Government Association and Mentor Program, having fun at campus events, working with my team on our senior design project and finally making friends along the way. From MSOE, I took away an excellent education and lasting friendships.
