Major: M.S. in Medical Informatics
Laurie McGroarty, who has her B.S. in nursing and works at the Froedtert Hospital Cancer Care Center as a case manager, is currently continuing her education by pursuing an M.S. in medical informatics at MSOE.
"Informatics combines my practical experience with new skills. Getting my M.S. was a logical step for me," said Laurie, who has been in nursing for 29 years. "One of the great things about nursing is the ability to have the base degree and knowledge, and then branch out in so many different directions."
She also appreciates that her fellow students are professionals with a variety of backgrounds in business, technology, medical fields and others.
"With people from so many walks of life, I get peer support, too," Laurie adds. "There are resources with personal experience right in the classroom."
The medical informatics degree is jointly offered by MSOE and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
