Why did you pick MSOE?
MSOE has an outstanding job placement rate that really appealed to me as well as guaranteed graduation within four years. I knew that MSOE would be a tough institution to get my degree through (and they’re not letting me down) but I also knew that once I do graduate, my career options will be endless.
What do you like about MSOE?
I love that MSOE is located in downtown Milwaukee. I don’t have a car while at school, but I really don’t need one because everything is within walking distance, or can be traveled to on bus. The Kern Center was also a big draw to me. Being an athlete, I work out consistently everyday and walking into that beautiful facility for the first time just made my jaw drop. We are truly blessed to have such great facilities in athletics as well as academics. Considering most people are either in one or the other at all times, it’s nice to have such great facilities to use.
What would you tell someone who is considering coming to MSOE?
I would tell them to be prepared. I know only a nursing student’s perspective, but be prepared to work harder and study harder than ever before. It’s challenging and no one would tell you differently, but it’s a competitive work environment that they’re preparing us for so we need to be able to perform at best. Bring flashcards; I can guarantee that you have never had to memorize so many things at one time before, so stock up. It’s not all work all the time though; the nursing staff and students are really nice and helpful, and getting to know other nursing students, especially upperclassmen, can be beneficial. Also get involved with the peer mentor groups right away. It’s a fun way to meet new people and take a break from stressful days.
What do you do in your free time?
During the week I don’t have a whole lot of free time, but the time I do have is usually spent at the Kern Center or outside when it’s nice. We have a nice athletic field that has a softball field and a volleyball court where there is usually some kind of campus event being put on by one of the student groups. Such things like free movie tickets, team trivia or root beer pong are pretty regular events that students can participate in.
Any groups or clubs you’re involved in?
I am currently a member of the MSOE softball team and work with the women's basketball team, but otherwise I am not a part of any student organizations. There are many, however, in which students can get involved in.
