How long have you been playing basketball, and what do you like about it?
I’ve played organized basketball since third grade on a variety of levels and for a variety of teams including my parochial school team, a high school club team, and an AAU team (this one I started in fifth grade). I’ve actually been doing basketball training camps since about first grade because the high school I went to, Oshkosh West, had a very good basketball team so they were always offering camps in the summer time. I love the competition and fast pace of the game. It is constantly going and going and always keeps my attention throughout the entire game.
Why did you choose MSOE?
I really chose MSOE because of its academic prowess and reputation. Basketball wasn’t the main concern for me leaving high school, I wanted to go somewhere where I knew I could get a great education and job right after I graduate. Plus, MSOE was one of the few schools in the country that offered an accredited Architectural Engineering program.
Why did you choose your major?
I am currently going for my bachelor’s in architectural engineering and my master’s in structural engineering and I have always been very interested in the construction of building and everything that goes into the building process. Like many engineers, I enjoyed building things out of Legos, in addition to the fact that I always had a knack for math and science.
What advice would you give someone considering attending MSOE?
I would tell them it is definitely worth the time. It may be a difficult and challenging four years of college, but it is in a great city and leaves you with the best education so you can go out and become a successful professional.
What do you like about MSOE?
I really like the challenge of MSOE. Just like with the challenges I face in basketball, I love being able to sit down and try to solve a problem or a project that I encounter. I also like the people around me. I have a great relationship with many of my professors, which really shows me how much they want me to truly learn the material and become successful in life.
How do you balance school work with basketball?
I feel like I am very efficient at time management. If I have an assignment due in a week or so, I do my best to start on it right away and slowly get bits and pieces of it done so it all doesn’t pile up at the last minute (which procrastination does happen at some point, but I try to minimize it).
