Where are you employed and what do you do?
I'm the director of Client Relations for Titus Energy.
What did you like about MSOE?
MSOE keeps close ties with industry and offers students a leading-edge, rigorous, hands-on education. In my experience, MSOE students graduate as leaders in their area of expertise. MSOE’s athletic facilities are top-notch, and the university continues to show their commitment to mind-body wellness and the community with the upcoming parking and athletic field development project. I feel that MSOE has provided me with incredible opportunities to grow personally and professionally through unique experiences in the classroom, hockey arena, and international community.
Do you feel your MSOE education has helped you in your career?
In addition to the technical portion of my education, MSOE has taught me how to think independently, present my ideas with confidence, and overcome the challenging obstacles found on the path towards success. The university has opened many doors for me both personally and professionally, and never fails to be a rich, vast network to tap into for bouncing around ideas, discussing the latest industry trends, or seeking professional career advice.
Any advice for students who are nearing graduation?
I have three suggestions for students looking to land the perfect out-of-college job:
- Network like you’ve never networked before. Use your teachers, professional associations, parents, family friends, and whoever else you can think of to get referrals and learn of potential job opportunities.
- Be conscious of your social media “brand” – aside from cleaning up any embarrassing photos, focus on making LinkedIn your personal billboard! Sell your abilities and make your page look as professional as possible. LinkedIn is an extremely powerful, heavily used, business recruiting tool.
- Challenge yourself and take risks. Tackle the extra project, lead the new initiative, or be the early adopter. You never know what fruits those actions will bear.
