Luke Leonhard '04

Major: Management Information Systems

Class: 2004

What is your current job title/name of the company?
Web Services Manager at Brady Corporation. In this role, I manage people and technology around collaboration. My team of five (including two MSOE graduates) is responsible for custom Web development and enterprise tools, using technologies such as .Net, Force.com and Google Apps.

Has your MSOE education prepared you for the workforce? If so, how?
I graduated as a business and computer systems (MIS) student at MSOE in 2004. My education not only prepared me in my first position at Brady, as a web developer, but also helped me quickly progress in my career. Communications and Web Development classes helped me be able to immediately contribute in the workplace. The most valuable skill I developed at MSOE was time management, and prioritization. Managing the fast-course pace at MSOE and enjoying the Milwaukee community helped prepare me to do the same in my professional career.

Do you find that employers have a favorable image of MSOE graduates?
In my role at Brady, I hire interns and graduates, and I continue to find MSOE students and graduates to be extremely qualified. MSOE's brand of quality talent is recognized by many companies, and continues to broaden.

What advice do you have for current or prospective MSOE students?
Be involved, and take advantage of curricular and extracurricular support that the school offers. Build strong connections with professors, alumni and fellow students while you're at MSOE. Those people may help you get to the next step in your career. One example for me had been last year, when Dr. Steve Bialek in the business school helped Brady and MSOE coordinate a partnership that helped me manage one of the largest projects in my career.

What are your tips for success?
Enjoy your time at MSOE, and really work to get the most of the experience. Your investment in time now will pay off.
