Major: Industrial Engineering
Class: 2011
Name: Elias Macias Simeon
Hometown: Mexico City, Mexico
Why did you choose MSOE?
My brother came to MSOE before me. He graduated in 2009 with a double major in mechanical engineering and business management. He told me about the good reputation and about the IE program at MSOE. Another reason was that I wanted to continue playing golf for a college team while at the same time attend a good engineering school. So before transferring here to MSOE I did a little research about good industrial engineering programs, and I saw that MSOE was one of the highest in the United States. On top of that my brother was here and the golf coach wanted me to play golf for MSOE.
What type of scholarship did you have?
International Student Academic Scholarship
What were you involved in at MSOE?
I played for the varsity golf team. Also I was a member of IIE, SHPE and ISA organizations.
What do you hope to do now that you're graduated?
My idea is to stay here in the United States and work for awhile. Otherwise I will go back home and try to work for an international company over there. With my education, it shouldn’t be a problem.
What would you tell someone who is considering coming to MSOE?
It is a university where the professors make sure you learn the material in every class. No doubt you will have to do all your work and sometimes it is not easy, but because of the small size of the classrooms, professors always have time and are willing to help you with every issue. Also Milwaukee is a great city to live in. Obviously if you have not lived in a cold city before is a little hard to get used to in the beginning. Winter months are long, but most of the time there is something going on at MSOE.
