Book Donations

The Walter Schroeder Library welcomes the donations of books and other appropriate library material, as well as monetary gifts. Book and serial donations help the librarians to provide informational resources and services to students, faculty, and staff.

All donated material becomes the property of the Walter Schroeder Library. The staff of the library decides what happens to all donations. Book donations are carefully evaluated to determine whether they should be added to our library collection.

  • Unused items will not be sent back to the donor.
  • All book and serial donations are accepted on the condition that the library staff might not add the item(s) to the library collection.
  • Items that are generally not added to the collection include the following:
    • Readers Digest condensed books.
    • Textbooks more than ten (10) years old.
    • Business, computer-related, and information technology-related publications more than ten (10) years old.
    • Physically-damaged books and other items.
  • Items donated to the library are either added to the collection or sent to Better World Books or other book donation services.

Books and other materials should be delivered to the Walter Schroeder Library during regular library hours. If you plan to drop books off on a weekend, please call ahead -- (414) 277-7180 -- to gain access to the library.

Donations are acknowledged with a letter from the Library Director. The processing of donated items can require time; letters of acknowledgment will be sent after donated items have been processed. The letter will include quantity and type of material donated. Please include a Gift-in-Kind form    with your donation so we know who to thank.

The Walter Schroeder Library will not assign or validate a monetary value for gifts. This is the donor's responsibility.

The donor must stipulate the value of the donation on the Gift-in-Kind form at the time of the donation.

The library is not able to provide a tax receipt which places a value on the donated books, but for tax purposes, a letter will be mailed to the donor noting the number and condition of donated items received from the donor, as well as the likely disposition of the items.

For questions or comments about book donations, please email the library or call (414) 277-7180.
