How do I export citations from Proquest databases into RefWorks?

A problem exists when you try to use RefWorks with a Proquest database. Proquest databases include ABI/Inform, Proquest Science, Proquest Research, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management Database, and PsycArticles Database. When you try to export citations from a Proquest database, the export process successfully opens up RefWorks, but then RefWorks issues an “Import Failed” error message.

Proquest Technical Support suggests two options for working around the problem.

  • Option 1 is to export citations into an RIS file, which you can then import into your RefWorks account. Please view step-by-step instructions to do this here.

  • Option 2 is to create a My Research account in Proquest, then save citations in your My Research account, which can then be exported to your RefWorks account.
