Parts of a Website Citation
MSOE has developed a style guide for undergraduates that explains how to format your papers, including the works cited page. See page 62 (67 in the .pdf file) for examples of how to cite websites. MSOE Undergraduate Style Guide. There are many types of style guides besides this one, be sure to ask your professor which one he prefers.
Here are the basic parts of a website citation for an article appearing here:
| Author: Last name, First name. If you cannot find an author, move on to the next part. |
Yale College |
| Date Published or Last Revised Date, use n.d. if there is no date. |
2007 |
| Page Title: use quotes. | "Why Cite?" |
| Website Name: use italics. | The Writing Center at Yale College |
| Retrieved/Accessed Date | Nov. 15, 2007 |
| Website Address | http://www.yale.edu/bass/writing/sources/why.html |
Put it all together, and here is what the citation looks like:
Yale College, 2007, “Why Cite?” The Writing Center at Yale College. Retrieved November 19, 2007, from http://www.yale.edu/bass/writing/sources/why.html.
