MSEM Library Research Tutorial

Welcome to the Milwaukee School of Engineering's MSEM Library Research Tutorial.

MSOE's Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) graduate degree program provides a technical-based alternative to traditional MBA programs, and offers students solid training in the overall management of organizations.

Although the degree focuses on practical, application-oriented training for the business world, at the same time, students in the program are expected to meet and to adhere to academic standards. These standards entail substantial library research and mastery of a documentation system that is employed to systematically arrange and acknowledge research that is used in the creation of a project, research paper, or some other activity in the MSEM program.

In application-oriented training, and in today's fast-paced, information-rich business environment, the usefulness of library research is sometimes questioned.

In reality, significant advantages are associated with library research. These advantages include practical savings in both time and cost when it is necessary to answer questions quickly and efficiently. To compete successfully, managers in companies must ask -- and attempt to answer -- a multitude of questions on an ongoing basis. Many times, it is not practical to seek answers by means of expensive and time-consuming data gathering. Instead, library research may offer an affordable, practical and helpful means of finding answers.

Library research in the MSEM program tends to focus on the effort to seek practical answers and solutions that address the questions, issues, and problems faced by managers ever day.

The MSOE Library has assembled a number of resources that can be employed quickly and efficiently to locate these practical answers and solutions.
