Finding Articles

The library subscribes to several research databases on academic subjects. These can provide you with the citation of the article—its title, author and page numbers, and the volume and issue number and date of the specific journal issue the article where was published. Some of the databases also contain whole articles.

You need an article citation to find the article in a print journal, whether it is a journal here in the Walter Schroeder Library, or if you are looking for it in another library. For most academic papers you write, this citation information must be included in the notes of the paper, so the sources you used can be verified or just followed by any interested scholars who will read your work.

To see the list of databases the Walter Schroeder Library subscribes to, from the library’s homepage http://www.msoe.edu/library/, click on the “databases” list on the left side.

This is a list of the library’s databases, arranged alphabetically. The name of the database is on the left, and in the box next to it is a general description of the kinds of articles you will find there.  You can use these subject descriptions to determine whether a particular database would be useful for you and your paper. Librarians can also help you with this.
