You may need books for research:
- for greater depth of coverage on a topic than can be found in an article
- when the professor requires books be included in the research process
- for historical information on the topic when included in the text
- for background reading that may be necessary to get “the big picture” about relationships within your topic
You may not need books for research if the topic:
- is very recent
- has evolved quickly and the information in books is outdated
- is a subset of a larger concept and not available except as published in article format
To access the most information on your topic be sure to find out what terms would be the most descriptive for your search. For example in a search on HDTV, try using:
HDTV
high-definition TV
high definition television
digital television.
