How To Locate Articles on Nursing Topics
Use the following major resources to locate articles that discuss applications of nursing topics.
CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature) with Full Text
- This nursing database also covers many allied health disciplines including: Perfusion, Dental Hygiene; Medical Records; Occupational Therapy; Optometry; Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. You can limit your search to just nursing journals.
- This is a full-text database as well. Many articles are online for more than 520 journals.
- Remote access to this database is available using the MSOE Proxy Server. If you have problems using the proxy server, you can call the library for a generic barcode number password.
For this class assignment, you will probably want to spend most of your time searching Nursing Resource Center with Allied Health and CINAHL. We will cover other databases later, which will also assist in finding articles for your presentation.
The short video below shows a sample search that will use techniques for finding the correct subject heading or descriptor and searching for that term. The database uses controlled vocabulary, or indexed terms to allow you to reduce the number of words or phrases you need to use to find a topic.
For instance a basic search in CINAHL using the following terms results in:
