What is Quiz Bowl?

Just how smart are you? Do you watch the game shows on TV and answer all the questions before the contestants do? Do you want to win a million dollars by answering a few questions? Okay maybe not a million dollars, but we do have some great prizes for the winning teams.

Can you answer the following questions?
  1. Did you know who John Wilson is?
    No. Many consider him to be the first President of our country. He was President from 1776-1778. George Washington wasn't elected until 1789. George was our first 4-year President, but 8 others served 1 year terms prior.
  2. Do you know what was created in 1903?
    Yes, MSOE, but actually we were looking for the answer ... crayon.
  3. What was Dr. Scholl's first name?
    If you said William, you are correct.
  4. Can you name Time Magazine's Man of the Year in 1938?
    Hint: his first name was Adolf.
  5. Do you know what the "C" stands for in J.C. Penney?
    Cash...seems to be the center of everything.
  6. Name the three countries closest to the borders of the U.S.?
    Mexico and Canada are correct....the third is Russia.
  7. Who is the only U.S. President to be sworn in by his father?
    Calvin Coolidge.
  8. Where is the only place in the world where you can see the sun rise on the Pacific Ocean and set on the Atlantic Ocean?
    Panama Canal where the Pacific is east of the Atlantic.
  9. Who was the first U.S. born President?
    You thought all President's had to be U.S. born...true, but Martin Van Buren, our 8th President (1837-1841) was the first to be born on U.S. soil.

If you enjoyed answering the trivia above and also work well on a team, consider participating in MSOE's Annual Quiz Bowl competition. Student teams are made up of 4 members and have represented student organizations, residence hall floors, senior design teams, or just friends with a common interest. The winning student team even has a chance at taking on up to three additional teams (faculty, staff and alumni) in an additional bonus round.
