Employers read thousands of cover letters each year.  Want to make yours stand out?  Avoid using such common words as hope, hone, drawn, and feel, and replace them with more catchy language.

Hope

New: "I look forward to speaking with you further regarding my qualifications."

Honed

Old: "This summer, I honed my research and writing skills through a position at _________ law firm."

New: "My research regarding constitutional rights violations culminated in a report and recommendations that guided the ACLU in future actions."

Drawn

Old: "I am drawn to ABC company because of its outstanding reputation and high quality service."

New: "The relationship management skills I built while working in a state office are a match for ABC company's commitment to outstanding customer relationships."

Feel

Old: "I feel the relationship management skills I built while working in..."

New: "The relationship management skills I built while working in..."
