Maximize your use of LinkedIn

If you are not already using LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/) as one aspect of your job search, you should be. Over 70 million professionals are connected via this professional networking website.
Just having a lot of people in your network is not enough, though. How often are they viewing your profile? How often do you come up in searches? Are people viewing your resume? Use these tips to make sure you're maximizing the use of your profile.
1) Connections: Typically 10% of your connections are actually helpful, being in your industry and geographical location. Check through yours, and try to increase it to 50%.
2) Views: On the right side of your home page you can see the number of times your profile has been viewed and the number of times you are found in a search. Try to increase both numbers to at least 10 views every 3 days. Become active in discussion boards to generate interest in your profile.
3) Resume: Use the Box.net application to post your resume within your LinkedIn profile. You will receive a notification each time someone downloads it.
4) Network Stats: Network statistics can be found under the "Contacts" drop-down menu. Are your contacts in your region and industry? Actively seek out new contacts in areas that will benefit your search.
