Top Skills/Qualities Employers Seek

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has once again surveyed employers and determined the top skills and qualities employers look for in candidates. Not surprisingly, here are the top 3:
1) Teamwork
2) Communication
3) Decision Making / Problem Solving
Technical knowledge in your field came in seventh (7th) on the list.
See the whole list at: http://www.naceweb.org/s10262011/candidate_skills_employer_qualities/
Fortunately, MSOE has an online tool that you can use to keep track of the activities you do to develop these and other interpersonal skills, the Professional Development Transcript (PDT). The PDT can be found here: http://careernet.msoe.edu/pdt/
Remember that even though employers value these skills, you can't just write "Team work skills" on your resume. Employers need more context, detail, and tangible information in order to believe you have what it takes to be successful.
Stop by the MSOE Career Services Office (CC-370) for help with your resume, the PDT, interview preparation, and much more.
