5 more resume mistakes that are hurting your job search

Formatting a resume is ultimately not that hard, as long as you pay attention to the details.  However, actually developing effective content and then utilizing your resume successfully takes some skill.  Avoid these common mistakes that are hurting your search, and click here to learn more about each of them:

1)      Hiding your achievements – Don’t just list your tasks and skills from previous jobs.  Employers want to see the value you can add from your previous accomplishments.

 

2)      Sharing your dreams – Employers are more concerned with what’s in it for them if they hire you, so don’t waste space talking about how you want to gain experience or further your career.

 

3)      Overusing buzzwords – Generic terms and overly fancy-sounding phrases will likely get you nowhere. 

 

4)      Skipping the customization process – Each resume you send out must be tailored specifically to that job and company to have maximum impact on what the recruiter is searching for.

 

5)      Failing to optimize – Incorporating the right keywords will get your resume found among the hundreds of other resumes in an employer’s applicant tracking system. 

 

Creating unique, customized, resumes for each job takes a little extra time, but goes a long way toward getting your resume seen by the hiring manager.  Avoid the above mistakes, or your application will join hundreds of others in the reject pile.
