Become a Mentor

But before you do, let's answer a few of the more commonly-asked questions....

What does a Mentor Do?

 A mentor is a MSOE faculty or staff member who has volunteered to work closely with new students, especially during the first quarter at MSOE. Each mentor teams up with at least one peer mentor. Each mentor/peer mentor team is assigned several new student mentees.

When Does Mentoring Take Place?

Throughout the student's entire first year at MSOE, with a special emphasis on fall quarter.

When Does the Mentoring Begin?

Mentoring begins upon the student's arrival to MSOE.

What Does the Mentor Position Pay?

While the mentoring position is a non-paying one, you will receive several personal benefits. First, and most importantly, is knowing you are helping new students become a part of MSOE. You also receive great practical experience working with people and as a team. In addition, the fun you will have and the friends that you will make will provide many lasting memories.

Are There Specific Qualifications for Being a Mentor?

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Knowledges about MSOE resources available to students
  • A positive role model for MSOE students
  • Available and accessible to both Mentees and Peer Mentors

How Can I Learn More About the Mentor Position?

You can stop into the Learning Resource Center, or email Brian Burke.

How Does One Get Selected as a Mentor?

Besides the written application, the Mentor Coordinator will contact and meet with all candidates.

When Are Applications Due?

Applications are due by the end of spring quarter for the fall semester, although interested applicants should contact Brian Burke at any time to discuss current opportunities.

When Are Selected Applicants Notified?

We will notify you by email as your application is approved.
