Campus Closing Announcements

If severe weather or another type of emergency leads to the cancellation of classes, the decision to close the university will be made as early as possible on the day in question so that the closing information can be included in the local media closing reports.

Main campus

The university announces cancellations in the following ways:
  1. broadcast on area television stations during their "school closings announcements" including WTMJ-TV4, WITI-TV6, WISN-TV12, WDJT-TV58, and several local radio stations
  2. a notice posted on the MSOE home page
  3. an e-mail message sent to all faculty, staff and students
  4. If the decision to close the university must be made after the school day has begun, announcements via the news media, Web and e-mail will be made as described above, and the campus community will be notified via the public address system in each campus building.

Off-campus Locations

The university announces outreach closings in the following ways:

  1. broadcast on area television and radio stations during their school closing announcements
  2. a notice posted on the MSOE home page
  3. an e-mail message sent to all faculty, staff and students

When classes are cancelled

  1. All events and activities, including intercollegiate athletic contests, facility rentals, seminars and other special events scheduled to be held on campus are cancelled.
  2. The following service and support areas are expected to remain as functional as possible with the appropriate level of staffing to ensure the safety of MSOE students and buildings.
  • Facilities/Housekeeping
  • Student Housing and Food Service
  • Public Safety
If no closing is announced as above, assume that classes are in session and MSOE is conducting business as usual.
