Women's Connections

Women's Connections is designed to provide opportunities for women students on campus to make connections with each other, MSOE faculty, staff and women leaders from the outside community.

Check the events calendar for information about the 2008 fall Women's Connections orientation activities.

Women's Connections
  • Care - our returning women students familiarize our incoming students with our campus, courses and community resources.
  • Communication - Women's Connections gives the female student the opportunity to talk about their individual experiences which enables women to hear different perspectives on how goals can be realized.
  • Networking - by developing relationships with current students and alumnae, the female student establishes connections which will broaden her opportunity in the workplace.

We certainly hope that you can join us for this worthwhile program. For more information or if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call the Student Life Office at (414) 277-7225.

"Being at MSOE has been an awesome experience, even with such a small ratio of women to men on campus. I have never been treated differently in classes or by other classmates because I was a woman. At first it may seem strange to be in class of 20 plus with only one or two other women, but after awhile it just seems to be the norm. But don't fear, there are plenty of opportunities on campus to get together with just the women, and this is through Women's Connections. There are so many activities to participate in during the year: dinners, outings to the lake, self-defense classes, learning different types of relaxation/exercise techniques, and there was even a belly dancing class one night on campus. I have had some of the greatest experiences here at school and I wouldn't change my decision about coming here!"
- Jackie Bohman, Biomedical Engineering

"Being a female in the ME program is GREAT! We all have fun while teaching and learning from each other and this builds us up as individuals. We are a team here and when we work together as one, great things happen. You would think that being one of the few women on campus, it would be difficult to fit in. However, at MSOE it is the complete opposite; I feel safe and welcomed each day. I also feel well protected here on campus. Everyone knows you by face, the cooks, public safety, staff and even students you never even talked to before. Being a female on campus has its advantages because we generally don't have a problem with communicating and working with other people to get a job done. These are qualities one needs in order to be successful in the field."

- Carrie Hansen, Mechanical Engineering

"Women's Connections has been a great way to meet the new faces on campus. Having the activities hroughout the year helps the women on campus to form a special bond and to get to know each other that muchmore."
- Mel Jamison, Architectural Engineering

"It is always a shock to be the only woman in a class of 30 people. Usually the nursing classes are the opposite. I remember going to Women's Connections my freshman year, and I thought, 'wow, look at all the girls' and then my first day of classes all I saw were guys walking to the science building. After three years I don't really notice that there are more guys. Being a woman at MSOE means challenging yourself to overcome any obstacle and to strive for excellence no matter how many men or women you have in your class."
- Eve Meyer, Nursing

"There are times when you could use a fun girls night out and Women's Connections provides those opportunities throughout the year."
- Laura Vogel, Architectural Engineering

"Women's Connections is a great program for all women at MSOE. It gives students, faculty and staff a chance to get to know each other in a friendly and supportive environment. Our women students are highly motivated and involved. The program also provides the opportunity for upper-classmen to share their experience and knowledge with our new students as they start their new college adventure!"
- Mary Nielsen, Registrar
