In March 2010, students McCoulter Eaton, Jay Konkol and Ryan Barnett traveled to Ribe, Kenya to help
renovate a rural school. They were joined by Dr. David Howell, who holds the Pieper Family Endowed
Chair for Servant-Leadership and is also an associate professor at MSOE. The students participated in
planning, constructing components and improving the dilapidated structure, which serves some 650
students.
This was not the first trip to Kenya by MSOE students. Since 2009, Howell has been partnering with
Project Kenya, a non-profit based in southeastern Wisconsin, to send MSOE students to help with
projects as diverse as providing health care to building computer labs with donated equipment.
