Opportunities in Automotive & Motorsports Engineering?

Elle Meinholz

I have a student who recently visited campus and loved it! However, he is looking to specifically get in to Automotive Engineering, and even more specifically Motorsports Engineering further down the road. He is concerned that Milwaukee and MSOE do not provide enough opportunity for him to get his foot in the door in those fields. Are there opportunities to get into these more specific fields from say ME or any of the other programs? Are there possible job and internship opportunities in the Milwaukee area in these fields as well. Can anyone shed some light on the situation? Career Services?

MSOE students are highly involved in automotive engineering!  Our SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) chapter won a national award recently.  SAE wins Outstanding Collegiate Branch award - 2012

We have a senior design project in Mechanical Engineering called SAE Baja.  The students work on an off-road vehicle and compete in a national event.  ME Senior Design: SAE Baja

Undergraduates in a variety of engineering majors including ME, CE, and EE are working on the SuperMileage vehicle.  This project is open only to underclassmen (freshmen through juniors).  It looks like the team is going to compete in the Shell EcoMarathon and the SAE Supermileage competition.  SuperMileage Vehicle Team (Team Carbonair)

MSOE has supported a variety of senior design projects in automotive engineering, including an SAE Formula Hybrid team that placed nationally, the design of an active suspension for a motorcycle, and more...just wander around the Science building and take a look at the senior design posters.

As far as motorsports jobs around Milwaukee...how about Harley-Davidson?

Hopefully some students who work on these projects and Harley interns have comments to offer!
