Indie craft fair features hipster handicrafts

The phrase ‘craft show' may conjure church basements and plastic canvas creations, but Art vs. Craft, slated for this weekend at MSOE, is anything but stuffy.
This biannual juried craft show highlights the work of more than 100 hip artists and crafters and their unique jewelry, textiles, painting, pottery and photography - all for reasonable prices ($1-300). This alternative craft fair also provides consumers with a counter economy, a fun way to avoid mass -produced goods and large corporations. Cash is king as not all the vendors accept checks or credit cards.
Independent radio station WMSE 91.7 FM is an event sponsor and is bringing music to all this visual inspiration. After the craft show Saturday, join WMSE for a special all-ages concert by Calvin Johnson (K Records, Beat Happening, The Halo Benders, Dub Narcotic Sound System), who will be headlining the show with two of Milwaukee's best bands, The Trusty Knife and The Goodnight Loving. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The show is all-ages (drinking with proper ID). Admission is $8.
