MSOE was again among U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges and Universities in the country, ranking 9th in the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs category, among colleges whose highest degree is a bachelor's or master's.
Also, MSOE's B.S. in Industrial Engineering degree was ranked 4th among Engineering Specialties in the Industrial/Manufacturing category.
Industrial engineering is a highly "people-oriented" profession. Industrial engineers determine the most effective ways for an organization to use its various resources -- people, systems, materials, procedures, information, equipment and energy.
While most industrial engineers work for manufacturing companies, they are increasingly found in every business - financial, health care, agricultural, governmental, wholesale and retail trade, transportation, construction and entertainment.
Last year, all (100%) of MSOE's graduates from the Industrial Engineering program found jobs in their field upon graduation with an average starting salary of $48,000.
About the rankings:
The report is based on a survey of deans and senior faculty at colleges and universities across the country. MSOE officials noted that while the survey results are very gratifying, results should not be overemphasized by students or their families during the college selection process. Choosing a college is an individual decision that should be made by students and families based on the student's individual needs. Students come to MSOE because of its focus on hands-on and laboratory learning, outstanding faculty, small class sizes, its small college feeling within an exciting city environment and the success of its alumni.
