Three Wisconsin teens received scholarships to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering's Discover the Possibilities, a week-long program held on campus this summer wherein students were introduced to engineering fields, worked with faculty, and got a taste of college life at MSOE.

The scholarships were provided by MSOE's Women in Technology Program, which encourages female students in rural Wisconsin to pursue science, technology, engineering and math fields. The program is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. The program partners with industry, educational institutions, government agencies and youth-serving organizations to provide programs for girls and adults.

The student scholarship awardees and MSOE summer program participants were:

•Charlotte Newkirk, of Plymouth, Wis. An incoming sophomore at Plymouth High School, Charlotte is active in her high school band program including the marching, pep and concert bands. She is a member of the German Club, is working toward a Silver Award as a member of the Girl Scouts of Manitou Council, and was chosen to attend a Girl Scout sailing camp this summer. She is the daughter of Betty and David Newkirk.

•Carly Hamer, who will be a sophomore at Sheboygan Falls (Wis.) High School this fall. Carly participates in the jazz/show choir, dance team and soccer team. She also is involved in her community service club.

Carly's sister, Margot Hamer, an incoming Sheboygan Falls High School senior. Margot's high school activities include the varsity soccer team, the band, drama club, the set crew and the volunteer club. The sisters' parents are Shirley and Bill Hamer.
