MSOE announces faculty and staff hires

In addition to welcoming new and returning students to campus Sept. 6, MSOE also welcomes the following new faculty:

 

Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department

 

Jeffrey Saunders '85 joins MSOE as a lecturer in the Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department. Saunders earned a B.S. in architectural engineering from MSOE in 1985. He has more than 20 years of experience in design and installation of HVAC systems, including projects with Johnson Controls Brengel Center and S. C. Johnson corporate headquarters. He resides in Menomonee Falls, Wis.

 

Blake Wentz joins MSOE as an assistant professor in the Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department. Wentz earned an M.S. in construction management in 2004 and a B.S. in business administration, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1999. Formerly he was an instructor at Northern Arizona University. He resides in Oak Creek, Wis.

 

Blair Williams joins MSOE as a lecturer in the Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department. Williams earned an M.S. in real estate and urban land use economics in 1998, an MBA in 1997, a juris doctorate in 1997 and B.A. in history 1994, all from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He resides in Milwaukee. His professional experience includes commercial real estate development.

 

Rader School of Business

 

Gary Ziebell joins MSOE as a lecturer in the Rader School of Business. Ziebell earned his MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2005 and a B.S. from Viterbo College in 1983. Ziebell has worked in business management for almost 20 years. Currently he is a territory manager for Anamax Corp. He resides in Combined Locks, Wis.

 

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department

 

Dr. Samantha Richerson '00 joins MSOE as an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. Richerson earned her Ph.D. from Louisiana Tech University in 2003 and her B.S. in biomedical engineering from MSOE in 2000. Formerly she has taught at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Penn., and had a research fellowship at Louisiana Tech. She lives in Milwaukee.

 

Dr. Gerald Thomas joins MSOE as an adjunct associate professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. Thomas earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of California at Los Angeles and his B.S. from California Institute of Technology. Thomas' work has been published numerous times and he has worked for Lucent Technologies, Motorola and AT&T Bell Laboratories, among others. He resides in Hinsdale, Ill.

 

Shannon Voborsky '03 joins MSOE as an assistant professor of clinical perfusion. Voborsky earned her M.S. in perfusion from MSOE in 2003 and her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001. Since 2003, she has worked for Cardiovascular Surgery Associates. She is licensed by the State of Wisconsin Medical Examining Board and certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. She resides in Milwaukee.

 

Mechanical Engineering Department

 

Dr. Jianxun (Jim) Hu joins MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Hu earned a Ph.D. in 2000 and M.B.A. in 2003, both from Marquette University. His M.S. in 1992 and B.S. in 1989 are both from Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He has taught previously at Marquette. He resides in Mequon, Wis.

 

Dr. Saiphon Jacque joins MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Jacque earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, an M.S. from Michigan Technical University in 1998 and a B.S. from Chiang Mai University in 1992. In addition to work experience in engineering, Jacque has been a researcher and lecturer at Chiang Mai University, a research assistant for UW-Madison and a project assistant for Michigan Technological University. Jacque resides in Cedarburg, Wis.

 

Stephen H. Rather '91 joins MSOE as program director for mechanical engineering technology and an adjunct associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Rather earned his M.S. in engineering from MSOE in 1991, an M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison 1976 and his B.S. from Michigan Technology University in 1969. He has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. He resides in Milwaukee.

 

Dr. Matt Schaefer joins MSOE as an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Schaefer earned his Ph.D. in 1997, his M.S. in 1990 and his B.S. in 1984, all from Marquette University. He brings experience as a design engineer and a research project engineer to the classroom. He resides in Caledonia, Wis.

 

 

School of Nursing

 

 

Sally Balkevich joins MSOE as a lecturer in the School of Nursing. Balkevich earned her B.S. from Concordia University in 2003. She is currently pursuing an M.S. in nursing at Concordia as well. Balkevich has been in the nursing field since 1976. She resides in West Bend, Wis.

 

Margaret Barton joins MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Nursing. Barton earned her M.S.N. from Marquette University, her B.S. from Columbia University and a B.A. from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Barton has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Concordia University. She currently works as a neurology nurse clinician at NeuroWisconsin S.C. She resides in Elm Grove, Wis.

 

Dr. Beverly Felten joins MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Nursing. Felten earned her Ph.D. in 2001 and an M.S. in 1988, both from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1983. Felten has prepared nurses for the NCLEX exam through Kaplan and has taught at Waukesha Technical College and Concordia University. She resides in Lannon, Wis.

 

Dr. Mitzi Forbes joins MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Nursing. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Az., and a B.S. from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Forbes' work has been published numerous times and won numerous awards. She has taught at UW-Milwaukee and the University of Phoenix (online master's program in nursing). She resides in Glendale, Wis.

 

Patricia Jones-Cooper joins MSOE as a lecturer in the School of Nursing. Jones-Cooper earned a B.S. from Cardinal Stritch University in 2003. She is currently pursuing her M.S. in nursing from Concordia University. Currently an oncology clinician, she also has worked as a registered nurse since 1993. She resides in Mequon, Wis.

 

Physics and Chemistry Department

 

Dr. Jaime Kubeika joins MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Physics and Chemistry Department. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of New York at Buffalo in 2005 and a B.S. from Kutztown University in 2000. Kubeika was awarded the Mattern-Tyler teaching award while at University of New York at Buffalo. She resides in Milwaukee.

 

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has announced the hiring of the following staff:

 

Applied Research and Grants Department

 

Douglas L. Cook '98 joins MSOE as a principal investigator - biotechnology project in the Applied Technology Center. Cook earned B.S. degrees in both mechanical engineering and electrical engineering from MSOE in 1998. He is currently pursuing an M.S. in engineering from MSOE. He resides in Greenfield, Wis.

 

Dr. Medhat Khalil joins MSOE as a professional education instructor in fluid power and motion control. Khalil earned his Ph.D. from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, in 2003, his M.S. from Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, in 1989, and his B.S. from Military Technical College, Cairo, Egypt, in 1983. In addition to teaching experience, Khalil has worked as a maintenance engineer and as a software developer. He resides in Oak Creek, Wis.

 

Paul Michael joins MSOE's Fluid Power InstituteTM as the director of reliability and contamination control programs. Michael earned his M.B.A. from the Keller graduate School of Management in 2000 and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1987. His work experience includes technical director at Benz Oil Inc. in Milwaukee. He resides in Milwaukee.

 

Brian C. VanRoy '05 joins MSOE in the Fluid Power InstituteTM as a laboratory manager. VanRoy earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from MSOE in 2005. He is currently pursuing an M.S. in engineering at MSOE. He resides in Milwaukee.
