The MSOE wrestling team has three wrestlers that were named to the 2005 NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American Team.

The Raider squad also won the team grade point average award for a fourth year in a row. MSOE’s team GPA was a 3.603.

MSOE sophomore 125-pounder Owen Putman (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice High School), sophomore 141-pounder Ryan Forbes (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore HS) and junior 174-pounder Joe Fields (Farnhamville, Iowa/Prairie Valley HS) joined the scholar team individually.

“I am really happy for these three guys, as this was a major goal that they were working towards all year,” MSOE head coach Kevin Morin said.

This season at the Lake Michigan Conference Championship, Forbes took first place while Putman and Fields were runners-up at the event. Forbes’ title was his second in back-to-back seasons. He was the conference’s rookie of the year in 2004.

Putman and Fields both placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

MSOE claimed its second straight conference title with 107.5 points, beating out second-place Concordia (96). The Raiders have won the LMC in four of the last five seasons.

With only two seniors on the 2004-05 team’s roster, MSOE will have a solid core of wrestlers back for next season.
