On Tuesday, WMSE 91.7 FM launches the city's only radio show featuring local musicians live in the studio. The weekly segment, MSE Project Presents: Local/Live, airs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, with a performance by Willy Porter, who has never before graced the MSE studio. On Tuesday, Feb. 22, Milwaukee quartet Red Knife Lottery will be in the studio at 8 p.m.
"Through the new program, local bands and musicians will have the opportunity to reach wider audiences in Milwaukee and worldwide through our live Webcast," said Brent Gohde, promotions director at WMSE. The sessions will be recorded and the bands will walk away with an unmastered demo to use. WMSE will use the recordings for its ongoing series of compilation CDs.
Another arm of the project, which was boosted last fall with a grant from the Milwaukee Arts Board and the Wisconsin Arts Board, is a Web site called Milwaukee Sound Environment, www.mseproject.org, where musicians can access information from recording industry experts.
