MSOE will hold its Winter 2005 Commencement 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at MSOE's Kern Center (1245 N. Broadway). About 40 students will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas and Peter Kuhfittig, Ph.D., will be the guest speaker and recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree at the ceremony.
Dr. Kuhfittig retired from full-time service to MSOE in 2001 after 33 years of teaching math and 15 years heading the Mathematics Department. Honored with Professor Emeritus status in 2001, he still teaches part time and is devoting more effort to another passion, worm-hole research related to theoretical time travel.
Dr. Kuhfittig received both bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the George Peabody College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University. His work has been published in numerous professional journals and he is author of a well-regarded series of textbooks covering technical mathematics and calculus. His former students often recall his knack for helping them understand difficult subjects.
