The MSOE men's basketball team will host the first Raider Engineers Classic at MSOE's new Kern Center.

The Jan. 8 and 9 tournament will feature prominent technical institutions including NCAA Division III opponents Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) of Troy, N.Y., the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) of Pasadena, Calif., and Polytechnic University, located in New York City's metropolitan area.

Tournament sponsors include Brian T. Dantinne, a 1993 alumnus, who is a Slam-Dunk sponsor. He is president and owner of Alpha Neonx Sign & Lighting LLC, Wauwatosa, Wis. The Three-Point Sponsor is TDS Telecom, Madison, Wis.

The four squads will tip off that Saturday and Sunday, beginning with RPI taking on Polytechnic at 1 p.m.; MSOE and Caltech will battle at 3 p.m.

Senior guard Paris Moore leads the RPI Red Hawks, participants of the Liberty League Conference. Moore was named the Liberty League's co-guard of the week after he averaged 18.5 points and 5 rebounds during the Oneonta State Tournament on Dec. 10 and 11. The Red Hawks currently sport a 3-3 record this season.

Polytech participates in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Fighting Blue Jays' most effective player this year has been junior point guard Christopher Jean. Through five contests, Jean has averaged 3.2 assists and 2 steals per game.

Junior forward Jordan Carlson, who has averaged 11.0 points per game in the team's first three contests, leads Caltech, members of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Host MSOE is led by junior captain Jeff Mikos. Through eight games, Mikos leads the Raiders with 13 points per game. Mikos was named First Team All-Lake Michigan Conference last season when he averaged 15.6 points a game in conference play.
